Traveling Chalice
Our Traveling Chalice Program began Sunday, October 14, 2007. Bishop Kevin Farrell was present to give the chalice to our first recipient. The recipient volunteers to keep the chalice in their home for a week and pray daily for vocations. We will rotate the presentation to a different Mass each weekend as we go through the year. The order of the weekly presentations will follow the Mass times as listed in the bulletin (for example: week 1 - Saturday 5:30 PM Mass, week 2 - Sunday 8:00 AM Mass, week 3 - Sunday 9:30 AM Mass, etc.) If you are interested in hosting the chalice for a week, please contact Shirlee at ext 11.
Many have already commented on the beautiful container in which the chalice is contained. For that, we have our resident wood craftsman, Royce Cadmus, to thank. The container is made completely of wood and is in the shape of a tabernacle. From the curved double doors in front to the wooden mosaic dome, it is a spectacular piece of art in itself. It perfectly houses the simple gold chalice which was presented to my by the Knights of Columbus at my Mass of Thanksgiving the day after I was ordained. As this chalice travels around our parish, I pray that as a community we will become a grace-filled parish in which many vocations to ordained, consecrated and ministerial vocations will be born.
